It was great getting to meet with each of you at Parent-Teacher conferences last week. Students will write out goals in class this week. Goal progress will be revisited in January.
At our holiday party in December, students will be decorating gingerbread houses. We are letting you know now in case you’d like to donate extra Halloween candy with small pieces for our decorating project.
Language Arts:
This week we will begin a new theme, Incredible Stories, filled with four different fun filled stories that are either fantasy or folktale. Students will revisit Trickster Tales next week.
Writing:
We have a lot of different writing pieces going on this month. The writing focus will be on paragraphs with a topic sentence, three interesting details, each with a second sentence telling more about the original detail and concluding sentences. For this trimester, the paragraph expectation will be 8 sentences.
Social Studies:
In social studies we continue creating globes and learning more about each of our 7 continents.
Math: Chapter 3, Subtraction:
This week's focus will be on mental math, rounding, problem solving and subtracting with regrouping. Math homework will come home on Monday and Wednesday.
The multiplication time test on the 3s is Friday.
How to study multiplication facts: 1. Memorize counting by the fact number. 2. Use flash cards in # order. 3. Use flash cards in random order. 4. Take a practice test orally 3-4 times. Time yourself to see if you can complete the test in less than 3 minutes. 5. Before the test, take a practice test in written form and timed at 3 min. or less.
A practice test will come home on Monday.
Science (Changes):
We continue with the Theme of CHANGES. Students will be experimenting with solids, liquids, and gasses over the next four weeks.
Homework:
For homework, students will have two pages of math, 1 page of spelling, 4 math facts, and Jiji math fluency. Nightly reading includes Dogzilla and a chapter book of choice.
STAR STUDENT: On Tuesday of each student's special STAR OF THE WEEK week, he/she will get to share the poster he's/she's made back in September. Students can also bring in small items to share with the class and decorate the STAR STUDENT windowsill.
