I am taking a moment to let you know some of my exciting future plans.
First of all, I have a lot of fun learning planned for the next two-three month's of school. I am excited to continue to share with your children my joys and the expertise as a teacher I have acquired over the past 26 years.
My news is that I plan to retire from teaching full time in the HBCSD this June. While I love teaching, I am ready to change my direction a bit and put my full effort into being a grandma, daughter, mom, wife, and community volunteer. I am excited for what lies ahead! The parting from my beloved occupation will have bittersweet moments I'm sure. The district decided to give a "Golden Handshake" to teachers of my stature and I couldn't pass it up.
Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to be your child's Third Grade Teacher!
Love to you all!
Mrs. Janis Terry
In the Classroom:
Language Arts :
Students are writing across the curriculum in science, math, and language arts.
Social Science:
We are finishing up our study of the Solar System this week. Students have had a great time learning about the planets and many other interesting aspects of our fantastic sky.
When we return from Spring Break, we will begin our study of Life Cycles and Ecosystems. Some highlights of the study will include the Bolsa Chica Wetlands with a Field Trip to the Site on April 30 and live butterflies in the classroom as we study the life cycle.
After the science units are begun we will also continue with our study of Orange County History.
Spelling:
Just three more weeks of weekly spelling. Students will not have weekly spelling homework during the month of May.
Math:
Students have been doing a fabulous job with math concepts and Jiji Math Completion. Our class average is 87% complete! Fabulous!
This week we continue with fraction concepts. When we return from Spring Break, students will finish up with fractions and then go on to the concepts of Geometry, Perimeter and Area, and Measurement.
Homework:
Read! Read! Read!
At this point in the year, homework's main function is to build responsibility and reinforce concepts already learned in class. Please help your child keep their homework folder tidy and up to date. Remember to look over the homework sheet at least once a week and sign the bottom showing your support for your child's learning.
The Monthly AR Goal is now raised to 9 points each month!!
In the month of March, 100% of students made the 7 point goal.
Keep up the great work and dedicated reading!
