Each week we are adding a few more routines to each day. I am very proud of what a great job students are doing. This week our big additions are iPad training, Math homework on Mon and Wed., and Star Student sharing.
I will be organizing classroom helpers over the next two weeks.

Vocabulary: place value, round, expanded form, standard form
Students will have Math homework on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
Social Studies:
Everyone's family research was neat, complete, and on time. Students earned a $5 bank bonus just for fun because of that. Everyone is ready for the next part of our project. This week, students will make a poster on a 12x18 piece of construction paper. The top section of the poster is for maps, flags, and other family place of origin illustrations. The bottom section of the poster is for special family things such, as foods, traditions, and celebrations. Each picture or illustration needs to have a caption or label. Pictures, maps, and flags, etc... can be drawn or printed on the computer and cut out. Students will give oral presentations of posters next week beginning on Tuesday.
Science:
Today, Monday, we set up our science journals for our first science study unit "Changes." Changes are happening all around us, all the time. This Theme of CHANGES will continue throughout much of our Third Grade curriculum. Our first scientific look will be at easily observable physical changes in the world around us: solids, liquids, and gasses.
Homework:
This week for homework, students will have two pages of math, one page of spelling, reading of The Ballad of Mulan, Jiji math fluency, and the Ancestor poster creation.
STAR STUDENT presentations begin this week. When a student is Star of the Week, they will share their posters on Tuesday of their Star Student Week. Remember, posters have already been completed and turned in. Students can bring in small items on Tuesday to share and decorate the hallway windowsill.
This week's star student is Sophia Jacobs. Next week's start student will be Natalie Hong.
