1) Concrete and relational concept development using hand on activities
2) Pattern and strategies using relational thinking using drawings and abstract mathematical thinking.
3) Practice and assessment
Students seem to be enjoying the process. I am looking forward to seeing great results.
Math:
Students are being tested on 5s multiplication & division facts this week. These are one-on-one assessments. When students pass a math goal, they will get a stamp on the Eight Goals for Multiplication/Division Success sheet.
This way parents and students will know what goal to be working on. The plan is to master a goal each week. This week, as a class we have moved on to goal 2, 5s and beginning goal 3, 2s and doubles.
Social Science and Language Arts: Over the next two weeks, we will be studying the Bolsa Chica Wetlands as part of our science and social studies units. Students will also be reading, researching, and writing about the Bolsa Chica Field Trip.
Orange County Independent Research Project:
- A copy of the directions are also posted on this site under 1) More 2) Orange County Reports.
- Students should know what location in Orange County they are using for the OC independent study project and hopefully already visited it.
- Students have the first three weeks in May to work on writing and visuals for their Independent Study Presentation.
- Projects will be due the week of May 22.
Homework:
Please preview your child's homework sheet each Monday. All homework assignments are due the following day unless noted otherwise. Reading homework may be read independently or with an adult depending on your child's reading level. Please sign your child's homework sheet each week when you have previewed the week's expectations.
STAR STUDENT:
Each student will have a week when they get to be our classroom STAR STUDENT. On Tuesday of each student's special STAR STUDENT week, he or she will get to share the poster he or she made in September. Students can also bring in small items to share with the class and decorate the STAR STUDENT windowsill. Posters will be shared on Tuesday of each week. Classmates will complete a Star of the Week book each week for our Star Student.
This week's STAR STUDENT is Chazz Hile. Next week's Star Student is Jackson Gordon
