Social Studies:
We continue to study the Tongva by reading, researching, and writing for OC Native American report along with a poem from the perspective of a Tongva Native American.
Language Arts
We continue with the novel Charlotte's Web. Students will have nightly reading that includes: practicing the page they will be reading aloud and re-reading our chapter from the day. Thursday night's homework will include the completion of any sections not completed in class.
Language concepts include nouns, verbs, and adding suffixes ing and ed.
Science:
Students will need to look to the western sky in the morning to view the moon's waning gibbous on the way to a new moon. This week our study of the Solar System will focus on Mercury and Venus
Writing:
Native American informative reports, and a poem about being a Tongva Native Americans.
Math: Chapter 6, Multiplication and Division Concepts:
This week we will be looking at characteristics of division and relating it to what we already know about multiplication and repeated subtraction. Students will also be practicing the 8s times tables. Math homework will come home on Monday and Wednesday.
The multiplication time test on the 8s is Friday.
How to study multiplication facts: 1. Memorize counting by the fact number. 2. Use flash cards in # order. 3. Use flash cards in random order. 4. Take a practice test orally 3-4 times. Time yourself to see if you can complete the test in less than 3 minutes. 5. Before the test, take a practice test in written form and timed at 3 min. or less.
Homework:
For homework, students will have two pages of math, 1 page of spelling, 8 math facts, and Jiji math fluency. Nightly reading will be from Charlotte's Web.
STAR STUDENT: On Tuesdays, the STAR OF THE WEEK will get to share their STAR STUDENT poster. Students can also bring in small items to share with the class and decorate the STAR STUDENT windowsill.
