FACT WISE: A parent letter came home Monday, April 3, introducing parents to our "Fact Wise" math program. Please sign and return the information sheet so I know you are aware of the changes in our math program. Each week we will be working on goals with a specific pattern of strategies.
1) Concrete and relational concept development using hand on activities
2) Pattern and strategies using relational thinking using drawings and abstract mathematical thinking.
3) Practice and assessment
Students seem to be enjoying the process. I am looking forward to seeing great results.
Math:
Students are being tested on 10s multiplication & division facts this week. These are one-on-one assessments. When students pass a math goal, they will get a stamp on the Eight Goals for Multiplication/Division Success sheet.
This way parents and students will know what goal to be working on. The plan is to master a goal each week. This week, as a class we have moved on to goal 2, 5s.
In Math, we continue with fractions and division concepts.
Beginning next week, students will have some additional homework to work on fact fluency for multiplication and division.
Social Studies: We are studying the early explores in Orange County. Students are mapping the travels of Gaspar de Portola across Orange County in 1769. Many names given in 1769 are still used today.
Orange County Independent Research Project Information will come home on Tuesday, March 28. Please look over the guidelines and sign the small slip on the 2nd page. Please return the small slip by Friday, March 29.
A copy of the directions are also posted on this site under 1) More 2) Orange County Reports.
Homework:
Please preview your child's homework sheet each Monday. More details about weekly homework can be found under the homework tab. All homework assignments are due the following day unless noted otherwise. Reading homework may be read independently or with an adult depending on your child's reading level. Please sign your child's homework sheet each week when you have previewed the week's expectations. Students are usually given two days to complete any written works. This give them a chance to ask questions at school if they have any.
STAR STUDENT:
Each student will have a week when they get to be our classroom STAR STUDENT. On Tuesday of each student's special STAR STUDENT week, he or she will get to share the poster he or she made in September. Students can also bring in small items to share with the class and decorate the STAR STUDENT windowsill. Posters will be shared on Tuesday of each week. Classmates will complete a Star of the Week book each week for our Star Student.
This week's STAR STUDENT is AnnaLeah. Next week's Star Student is Alex Kast.
