I look forward to seeing parents at Back 2 School Night, Thursday, September 22, at 6 or 6:35 PM.
Language Arts:
Students are being introduced to the daily learning routines for Language Arts learning. Room 18 will be piloting the new Language arts Wonders series by McGraw Hill Education. The BIG IDEA of our first Unit is, "How can learning help us grow?" This week's reading will focus on answering the Essential Question, "What can stories teach you?"
This week's LA homework will mainly be reading. Spelling routines will begin in class but spelling homework will not begin for one to two weeks.
Math:
We will begin by reviewing the concepts of Place Value and Addition Skills. Vocabulary: digit, standard form, expanded form, place value, word form. This week's homework is just Jiji fluency. Beginning next week, students will have math homework two days a week (Monday: Due on Wednesday; and Wednesday: Due on Friday)
Social Science:
We begin the year learning about world geography, world cultures, citizenship, and government. In October we will switch to science to study our solar system.
Back to School Night:
Please save the date for Back to School Night, Thursday evening, September 17, 6:00 or 6:35 PM. Come visit the classroom, Meet Mrs. Terry, sign up for parent-teacher conferences and get a preview into the wonderful world of THIRD GRADE. I look forward to seeing each of you there!
Homework:
Each week a homework sheet will come home listing assignments, important activities, and school and classroom events. Please preview the HW sheet and visit our webpage for more details on Mondays. Then, sign the homework sheet. All homework assignments are due the following day unless noted otherwise. Reading homework stories may be read independently or with an adult depending on your child's reading level. I will discuss the 5 finger reading rule at back 2 school night. This rule enables students to determine whether a book is at an independent or assistance needed level.
