We will be going on a field trip to the Bolsa Chica Wetlands next Friday, March 25. Parents are welcome to join us. Please let me know it you would like to attend. The trip is from 9-11:30 AM. I do need a few parents to stay with the groups for the entire trip. Others may just come for part of the trip as your schedule allows. It is sure to be a fun and beautiful day at our own Bolsa Chica Wetlands!
Parent surveys came home on Monday in your child's homework folder. Please take a moment to fill it out and mail it in the provide envelope. There is also a link if you'd like to complete it online.
This is the final week of the 3rd Trimester. Current Accelerated Reader goal is 38 points. The end of trimester Jiji/MIND math goal is 70% complete.
Language Arts
Tuesday, March 15, is the final test on the novel Charlotte's Web. Students will be doing a few culminating projects in class this week.
We are back to regular spelling this week with Super Speller Words emphasizing double letter words and suffixes. Super Speller Words: beginning, quitting, scrubbing, starry, batter, roomy
Science:
Students are finishing up their Space Log Books this week. The final assignments include: creating "My Own Planet" and researching two other areas of interest such as nebulas, comets, constellations, dwarf planets, etc...
For the final Solar System test, Friday, March 18, students will need to be able to:
- name the 8 planets in order from the sun,
- give two facts about each planet
- tell why the sun is important to life on earth,
- match pictures of the moon with the phases
Writing:
Students will writing an opinion piece to convince Mrs. Terry and their parents as to why a leprechaun WOULD or WOULD NOT make a good friend.
Students will also be writing about the character traits of one of the characters from our novel. Students will need to back up their character descriptions with evidence from the text.
Math: Using Multiple Strategies to Solve Multiplication and Division Problems:
We will continue practicing our multiplication and division patterns and facts with multistep word problems.
We will also be having mini lessons relating multiplication and division to equivalent fractions, area, and perimeter.
Vocabulary: dividend, divisor, inverse operations, quotient, decompose, known fact, identity property, zero property. repeated subtraction, skip counting, related facts, numerator, denominator, area, perimeter.
Homework:
For homework, students will have 2 pages of math, 1 page of spelling, and Jiji math fluency. Nightly reading from a chapter book of choice or books or websites related to astronomy.
STAR STUDENT: On Tuesdays, the STAR OF THE WEEK will get to share their STAR STUDENT poster. Students can also bring in small items to share with the class and decorate the STAR STUDENT windowsill.
